Goddess"She dwelt among the untrodden ways
Beside the Springs of Dove…"

She dwelt among the secret shades
beside the trees of Fen
In shadows she hid her passion
and sadness she kept within.
She dwelt among the shady groves
of boughs all laid aright
She danced within the wood lit glen
and sang the song of night.
She bathed beside the sunlit cove
Under the glassy fount-
Her wash'ed hair a glimmer with stars
Her beauty shined without.
She slept among the mossy dales
beneath the willow tree
Her dress a tattered rag of silk
Yet glad and free was she.
She listened to the chimes of birds
and the whistle of trees in air,
The moon, at dusk, would see her
and sprinkle dew stars in her hair.
She dwelt among untrodden ways
For this-that much is true
and very few did love her-
least, save-but for a few.
Yet she was free, and bold, and bright
and nature loved her more
Than mortal man could ever rhyme-
so her, they did abhor.
Yet silently lies she, sleeping,
a slow smile spread o'er her face
